About

Cardiology, practiced as if every patient were family.

I'm a cardiologist working at two ends of the discipline. Heart failure and transplant cardiology is slow medicine. The relationship with a patient often runs for years, and the work depends as much on the family network around the patient as on the prescription pad.

Cardiovascular imaging is the opposite end: pattern recognition in a still frame that may decide the next decade. The principle that organizes the work across both is one I learned long before medicine: every patient should receive the care I would expect for a member of my own family.

That standard means looking at the person as a whole, including their background, environment, and family circumstances, before any decision about their heart.

The right answer for a patient, in cardiology especially, almost always involves a doctor with time to listen, honesty to be trusted, and patience to know the whole life the heart belongs to.
